I went here for lunch today with my husband and were disappointed. Our service was not great, and our lunches were equally bland. I got the Puffy Fish Tacos and the fish was unseasoned and tasteless. And the puffy taco was annoying because it fell apart very quickly. My husband got the combo meal with a tostada and tamale and said he'd had better. When our server came around with tea, she filled my husband's cup with tea and he actually had soda. The food was mediocre along with the service.

Delicious breakfast! As a vegetarian I wasn't sure what I'd find for a Mexican style breakfast but this place goes above and beyond expectations. If I lived in Kansas City I would definitely be a regular!

This place is just ok for me. I've had better Mexican food. Maybe I'm just too picky when it comes to Mexican food but I ordered the Chile Relleno and it was bland. Didn't have much flavor. Food was soggy like if it had been steamed or microwaved. My mom got the menudo and she literally had a few bites and didn't want to eat it. Drinks are good though!

Probably the best Mexican food I have had on Southwest Blvd. Enchiladas with the creamy white sauce was out of this world! The chips were tasty and the salsa actually had some kick and flavor to it. My girlfriend had pulled pork burrito and enjoyed it a lot too. It's served with a sweet salsa she loved. Service was good and friendly. We will be going back again for sure.

Best breakfast burritos and orange juice I ever tasted. Always call in advance and food is ready when I get there before I go to work . Nice staff

My daughters and I really enjoyed our food. I hadn't had chilaquiles in years. These were not the same as I had remembered them, but they were delicious.

Went here for a friend's rehearsal dinner and I have been craving the veggie tamales ever since! This time got an entree (yucatan tacos) and the cheese dip which were great. The rice and beans are flavored which is nice. Even ordered the creme brûlée and it was amazing! You can't go wrong when the top is super crunchy. Can't find anything wrong about the spot. It's not too busy but people definitely show to eat. Don't miss out and try it out!

I have been searching for a great fried or puffy taco in the KC area since moving here. There are some decent ones, but nothing that compares to the famous tacos of Des Moines! Pocos has a pretty decent contender with their puffy tacos. I will start with the chips and salsa. The chips are pretty typical and nothing special. They need a sprinkling of salt and it would be nice if they were warm. The salsa was a favorite. I thought the flavor was spot on and the heat was perfect. I would put in my top salsas. The tacos were pretty darn good. Pocos calls them Fluffy Tacos, but they are the same as puffy tacos. The shell is corn and fried to perfection. I tried a chicken and a pork taco. The chicken was well seasoned and quite tasty. The pork was a bit over seasoned and had a good punch of heat to it. I like spice and heat, but this was a little heavy. beans and rice were pretty standard, good, but nothing to get excited over. The margaritas are tasty and big. Service is ok. Prices not bad. Still not the tacos I search for to fill the missing hole in my heart from Des Moines, but a decent contender to try and be a substitute when I can't just drive three hours for some tacos.

I went here almost every Sunday around brunch time for two years! Huevos Rancheros is my favorite, and the queso dip is delicious! They will also do carryout if you don't have time to sit down or don't want to put on more than sweats! I love the food, the bright decorations, and the excellent staff.

How have I missed this gem of a restaurant? They move soon since their building was sold by landlord, to across from the Costco on Linwood--so carryout & catering will be a on-the-way-home no-brainer for many. The food quality was so solid that I can't believe we just found this place. Family-run for 10 years, excellent guacamole (plaintain chips--WOW, great touch), good house margarita, terrific beef taco & the veggie tamale was outstanding. My spinach enchilada had a sauce that was too spicy for me, but the interior of the enchilada was great. Husby thought his fluffy taco entree (chicken & beef) was just great, he'd order it again. The house salsa very good, but the chips that come with it are basic--not warm, not homemade. That keeps it from a 5th star for me. Dinner for 2 with a margarita each: $40. Pocos is worth trying. The folks seated behind us told us it is their FAV Mexican place in KC, and that they love the brunch, and gave us more reccommendations for food choices than we could handle: fish tacos, salads, quesadillas.

Tried it once..... great, tried it again and still great. This place needs better reviews. Their salsa is the best I've "EVER" found in Kansas City!....and I've been to several mexican restaurants. You know those cheap places that give you watered down canned tomatoes whipped up in a blender with some salt and maybe you'll see a cilantro leaf or two and pepper flake, but not this place. That salsa and chips alone will make you come back! Food is "Good" I got 3 taco's (Which they fried the corn tortillas) not that pre-made stuff. The Taco's were loaded. I asked for a side of pico de gallo (Which was quite amazing and full of flavor). I asked for black beans and it was excellent. Once again full of flavor. My friend also ordered a grande burrito (you won't be disappointed) Give this a place a try.

I am a very impressed man. Wanting to try a new place out, I gave Poco's a shot, and had an incredible lunch-time experience. Knowing that I'd be writing a review and didn't want to sing their praises too highly based on one experience, I went back two days later (this time for breakfast). Equally impressed, I am confident that Poco's deserves a 4 star review. Matt Fact: I love tacos. Oh lord almighty, do I love tacos. Poco's has THREE different styles of fish tacos, which just makes me smile. I opted for the mahi mahi variety, served with a bbq mango salsa. They came with a hard shell wrapped in a soft, and they were just glorious. In fact, I had tacos for both meals. Their breakfast tacos aren't exactly life-changing, but they did in fact taste pretty dang good. I probably would try something different next time, but seeing as there are THREE DIFFERENT BREAKFAST TACOS I have plenty of obvious options to sample before I even get to their more creative breakfast fares. It's not often that I look at a menu and think to myself "I'm going to have to start coming here a lot more often if I want to try everything that interests me," but that was my internal monologue at Poco's. I'll be back. Why 4 and then not 5? Service can be a touch flaky. Friendly, but not all that efficient and they seemed a bit manic. Still, nothing that harmed the experience. Just trying to be a bit more careful with passing out my 5 star reviews.

I've been eyeing Poco's from a distance for a while now, and finally decided the other week to try them out for Taco Tuesday, that wonderful day where all the restaurantes on Southwest Boulevard drop their taco prices by fifty cents and customers spend twenty dollars more on margaritas than they normally would have. I went during lunch, so I didn't imbibe, and so do not take this review in regards to their margaritas. I ordered three things: guacamole, carne asada tacos, and a Dr. Pepper. The guacamole was abysmal, and I eat damn near anything that's green. It came out a milky green that looked like a mix in sour cream. I'm not a CSI Detective, but if I was, and I put a sample of Poco's guac in one of their machines, I would bet that not even a trace amount of avocado would register. Or taste for that matter... if taste is something that can be detected. HOWEVER, they did come with these awesome plantain chips that were as long as my arm, so they redeem themselves one star there. The carne asada tacos were dry, had no accoutrements spare seven microscopic diced onions and maybe a pinhead of cilantro. I doused it in the remaining salsa (free with chips when you walk in) and let it all slide down my gullet. One star awarded for physically making and putting the taco on my table, but none beyond that. The Dr. Pepper was FANTASTIC. Bubbly, crisp, sweet, with all of those strange flavors that make Dr. Pepper the enigma that keeps me coming back for more. However, McDonald's pulls off the same performance, so no stars awarded. Service, as has been previously pointed out in some of the bad reviews, is reminiscent of a drugged circus elephant that is near the end of its life and has forgotten how to perform anything other than very basic stunts. It's worth trying once, I guess. But I will not be going back for a long while.

Almost every weekend I am in search for a great brunch. Kansas City is getting really good at satisfying that craving for sure, but one place I frequent is Poco's. It is definitely the "go to" place for quick Mexican food fix. They got taken over by "Restaurant Impossible" with that awful guy Robert last summer which did serve them well in the end, I just dispise that man trying to be like Gordon Ramsey. Anyway, sorry, the best thing about Poco's is their ingredients. Their house salsa (I think the Cilantro one) is to die for! Everything on their menu is wonderful, but I absolutely love the fact that they have fresh produce in everything. I had the chicken quesadilla salad and it was delicious! It was not the typical salad I was expecting. I mean, who rants about a salad! The boyfriend had their Baha Tacos with chicken and they were wonderful as well! I used to only go there for breakfast, but now I may hold out for the daytime/dinner menu more! Either way, it is a warm and welcoming place to go and always has that neighborhood charm with great food! You won't be dissappointed! .... unless you drink coffee, ugh, it's awful.... bring your own!

F We've tried Poco's twice and twice we've been let down. Both times the service was piss poor. Once we waited and finally had their mediocre food. Today we waited ten minutes and left. People arrived after us and we're served. My wife even stood up and waived at the waitress and she was not acknowledged. The place was half full. No excuse. We left and went to El Patron and we were greeted (GREETED!! What a notion!) and enjoyed a wonderful meal. This place doesn't even deserve the time it took to write this review.

Came back on a random whim a while ago. I noticed a few decor changes (thanks, Robert Irvine), but it didn't seem dramatically different. I think I may have been the only person in the place who wasn't part of some kind of seminar that was going on; when I walked in, the hostess seemed a little surprised that I actually wanted a table and didn't wander over and join the group of people with papers and briefcases who were attentively listening to someone jaw about real estate or whatever it was. I figure this was probably due to the timing of my visit: around 10:00 AM on a weekday. The food, however, seemed to have improved. I tried some breakfast tacos and was pleasantly surprised. Nicely spicy, good chorizo, and served with very good potatoes. Service was great. Totally earned another star from me, and I hope they can keep it going so I can come back!

Some friends and I volunteered at a local food pantry on a Sunday morning. Afterward we want something cool, funky and trendy for a "brunch." My daugher suggested we go back to this great place we at last summer. The thing is, the place we visited in 11.13 is not the same place where we ate in 3.12. Lucky for us, we took that advice. There were 10 in our party and it was a Sunday morning around 11 AM. It was packed, but still took only15 mins to get a table. GREAT patron management. After sitting, we got some pretty phenomenal service and some amazing food. NOT one person in our part was less than blown away by the quality of the food and service. One of those guests let me know that this was the subject of a recent restaurant makeover TV show. The only way that I can tell is that the appearance went from D+ to A- (the outside still looks like an 80's diner. The inside looks like a great hispanic neighborhood fave.) One final note: I was blown away by the service. As we were leaving, one member of our party let me know that the very nice employee that went above and beyond is the owner. WOW! How cool is that. BOTTOM LINE - I'll be back here soon. And I hope to see you there!

Not impressed. The restaurant was over half empty, yet it took a long while to get our drinks. The coke did not even taste like coke. Tasted like Tab with sweetener added to it?? I ordered veggie tacos, thinking it would probably have lots of goodies inside. Nope. GRILLED BELL PEPPERS IN A FLOUR TORTILLA. No cheese, lettuce, onion, salsa, beans, nothin. Sooo disappointed! I will not be back again.

Very good food. We started with the ceviche which was very good. Lots of shrimp and the strawberries added a nice sweet kick. For the main dish we ordered two different types of fish tacos which were equally as good. We both love fish and the tacos were overflowing with fish...mmm. If you like hot sauce ask for the extra hot green sauce and mix it with the medium hot red sauce.

New location on linwood is an awesome spot to stop in for lunch! Fast, inexpensive and tasty as hell. Since they moved in just a couple blocks away I eat here constantly and my life has never been better.

Amazing food-- Best kept secret in Kansas City! While perusing Restauraunt Impossible on Netflix I found Pocos' here in Kansas City on the Boulevard. We love local fare and have grown tired of blah chain restaurant food. Our waiter was friendly and the place looks great (except the exhaust fan over the table--please clean it). The salsa and chips were good, nice flavor. We ordered two appetizers, Guacamole with plantain chips and the chicken quesadilla. I'm very picky about guacamole-- this did not disappoint. I loved the plantain chips far more than tortilla chips. They spoiled me so Pocos is now my favorite place. My husband made me try the quesadilla, I'm glad I did, it was packed with flavor, soooooo goood! My husband ordered a brisket and potato burrito and a steak fajita burrito both were delicious (yes, I tried many bites). He's not a fan of refried beans but loved Pocos' version. I opted for a spinach enchilada, vegetable tamale and decided I HAD to try the crab and shrimp cheviche. I was surprised that the enchilada had a red sauce but it was wonderfully flavorful. Despite the rich flavor it didn't overpower the cheese or chicken. The tamale was good, I expected more goat cheese but it was still delightful. The cheviche was worth the cost. Tangy, with chunks of seafood and 3 plantain chips (I wish there were more). It will have me cruising the Boulevard frequently. We finished with the dessert nachos-- crunchy pastry triangles, chocolate sauce with raspberries. Flavorful without being overly sweet. The highlight was meeting the owner and her baby. She was friendly and proud of establishment. We will be back, in fact I'm thinking this Saturday for breakfast!

Poco's is delicious! I've been there for breakfast & dinner. Breakfast: goat cheese & veggie tamales with scrambled eggs. Dinner: Carne Asada tacos, guacamole & plantain chips. I would give it five stars if the service was better.

As you may already know, Poco's received the "Restaurant Impossible" makeover. Of course curiosity drug us in to see what Robert had done to the place. The dining room is bright and welcoming, the staff are family and very proud of their digs. The menus were a little odd as the wine and beer list looked more like a menu and the menu seemed more like a list. The food choices seemed pretty usual for a Mexican restaurant, but there were a few things that caught my curiosity. Mainly the Shrimp Ceviche. I ordered the ceviche as an appetizer and the steak fajitas as my entree. My dinner mate ordered the spinach and cheese dip. When our appetizers arrived I was taken back a bit. The chips and dip were presented very upscale, but the ceviche really threw me. It was served in what seemed to be a stemless wine glass on a plate with fried plantain chips. Upon further inspection, there were strawberries in the ceviche. Now you could say I was definitely confused. As I piled some of the ceviche on my plantain, I was pleasantly surprised. The strawberries actually worked with the dish. I would have preferred more shrimp in it, but none the less, the whole thing did work. The cheese dip was amazing. Warm and definitely satisfying. Our entrees arrived and whereas I liked my fajitas, they were on the dry side (hence the lack of a 5th star). On the upside, they were really well seasoned and flavorful. Will I be going back? Absolutely! Poco's is still evolving into their new skin and I can't wait to see what else comes from the new look and vibe.

So this is by far the best place in Kansas City to get céviche it's served with plantain chips and all I can say is holy cow that stuff is as good as sex!!! Mexican breakfast they have that down pat in my book definitely don't be afraid to ask for things while you are there they were super nice and helpful :)

The food is good and margaritas are outstanding! But PLEASE step up the service. This is the 4th time I have dined here and the service continues to get worse each time. It almost feels as though the staff is "put out" by customers. I walked into an empty restaurant and heard "sit wherever you want". (The least of their problems but not a good start to the customer experience!). My food was served incorrect and never followed up. Water was served with something white floating in it. They never even served me chips and salsa!! Big time bummer! I would have brought it up if anyone had even been around. While I was eating I could hear the kitchen staff laughing hysterically in the back. It's nice to know they were having a good time at work, but maybe check up on your customer? Man, I wish you guys would fix the service situation!!! It sucks you don't take customer service seriously because the food is really good.

Following its renovation, I gave Poco's five stars. This time I'd like to give it six, but I can't figure out how. Anyway, I was particularly impressed by the service today. The server was an experienced professional, who had previously worked at restaurants in the Plaza. Her name is Teresa. Poco's will be on a program on the Food Channel in November. Until then, you still can get in here easily without reservations. After that, I don't know.

Meh. I've experienced better. This restaurant is just down the street from my employment. Had lunch there on a Friday. It was about 1:30 so lunch crowd was over. Service could have been better. He was a polite guy and friendly but didn't check back with me. I had to flag him down to come over when I needed something. Food was not to my taste. Watered down soda and salsa. The burrito was just ok. A little runny and no cheese except a few sprinkles on the top. I like cheese. Waiter checked back with me to see how I was liking it but I was completely finished by that time. I told him I wasn't liking the salsa so he brought me a sweeter chunkier salsa, but it was a waste because I had already finished my meal. I had a burrito. $10 for burrito with side of beans and 1.99 soda. It didn't taste like coke, I think it was an off brand. This was not at all worth it. I was leaving the sign out front said ask about lunch special. I went back in and asked what the lunch special was. The other waiter said they should have given me a separate little menu for that. I was never given any such menu or even offered a lunch special. I was not impressed. Probably won't go back.

Seriously, what's not to like? From the outside it doesn't look like much but once you step in the door you know you made the right choice! Great location, private parking, staff is prompt and polite and the decor is chic/homey with beautiful colors and very spacious. I went for breakfast and the menu is a nice mix of standard American fare for the less adventurous and Mexican breakfast items which are delicious. I wasn't crazy about the plantain chips as they seemed a bit overcooked but the salsa verde and the tortillas are great. And the mimosa was the perfect mix of bubbly and sweet. I most certainly will be back to try lunch and dessert.

I've been meaning to review this place for a while, and I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. Over the past year living close to southwest boulevard and its abundance of Mexican food joints, I find myself going back to poco's over and over again. It's not your typical Americanized Mexican food place- its got a unique menu and a cute, clean interior. The service has always been incredibly kind and attentive, and the food has yet to disappoint me. And hey, they serve breakfast, and it's crazy good as well. Oh, and did I mention how dirt cheap this place is? This review could go on forever with the positives. The bottom line is, everyone needs to give this place a try, because it is DEFINITELY the best Mexican food joint on sw boulevard.

  • Josh C.

So far the service has not be good. A little slow. Chips were mediocre and they were more like pita chips, like were's the hummus? And they weren't hot but the salsa was good. A few flies were buzzing around my head. Maybe we just hit it on a bad day but when your'e competing with the rest of the Mexican restaurants on the boulevard you better be on your game. I should be fair and give another chance but first impression were not good compared to others in the area.

Do not come here. If you can't help it, still don't come here. AND if I ever hear someone say they love Poco's I'm going to immediately judge you and assume you hate your taste buds. I've been to Poco's a couple of times. First was the original Poco's, pre Restaurant Impossible. I had the mollete's for brunch. For starters, I'm Mexican, like I had a Mariachi and sang along with them at my wedding kind of Mexican! With that said I KNOW Mexican food - and that was not Mexican food it was a Tex-mex variation of it that was lacking in flavor! It's like bland is part of the menu. I had to ask for spicy salsa and guac and a whole lime to make it more than a piece of bread with chorizo and beans on it. Verdict, brunch was a bust. I went back last night for dinner with some friends. This is post Restaurant Impossible - so I was sure that it'd be better! The inside decor looked nicer and put together. But again the food was AWFUL! Simply awful. I ordered the fish tacos as you can't go wrong with fish tacos! I was expecting a citrus-y tilapia with some lettuce, pico, and guac. What I got was a homemade tortilla (only saving grace!) a WILTED, not fresh piece of lettuce and a fish combo of salmon and tilapia. I ate 3/4 of the first taco after trying to pick out the salmon and said eff it when it came to the second taco. I'm not a huge fan of salmon because you can clearly taste when it's not fresh - this was not fresh fish. I was actually worried that I was going to get sick after eating it. I didn't get sick but over 12 hours later I can still taste the awful salmon when I burp, not normal!! On top of that the salsa sucks! The chips were ok. AND I paid $14 to not eat my crap food. I asked my friends how their din was one said dry the other said bland and over-cooked. BAM! It's not just me! So if you want a homemade tortilla filled with chips by all means come eat at Poco's, if you're wanting more steer clear!

    (1)
  • Paul N.

You have to be kidding me. I paid a total of $18 (food, tax, tip) for lunch that consisted of a rather dry roasted pork burrito, a coke and an order of chips and salsa. And that was ala cart - They didn't even put rice and beans on the plate! The TV exposure has seriously gone to their heads. Why would anyone pay that much for mediocre food. There are way too many other options, especially in this part of town, competing for your restaurant dollar.

Partially because I am a creature of habit, and partially because vegetarian options are not as plentiful at some places, I usually eat the same thing every time I return to most restaurants. But every time I've come back to Poco's for breakfast, I've tried something different. Lots of options for me, and they all sounded good. And boy were they ever. Everything I tried was delicious. You can taste the high quality of their ingredients, and the flavors are interesting and well balanced. The service is courteous and inobtrusive; the decor is bright and fun. I guess there was a reality TV show that contributed to this place, but I don't know the show and I've only recently discovered Poco's, so I can't comment on this. This is now my favorite place in town for breakfast, Mexican or not. I'll have to try lunch or dinner...

Very good food! I am in a paleo 45 day challenge, and this was the first place I've had TOO many choices to eat! I loved it. I had the puffy fish tacos, and even with my restrictions, I left FULL. Thank you pocos for making healthy, hearty, Latin cuisine! Great job!

I always choose Poco's when I want a wonderful margarita and great Mexican food. I'm not fond of the typical Mexican restaurant her in KC. But Poco's has elevated Latin cuisine to a higher level. They use traditional methods of cooking and don't rely on soupy beans to fill the plate. They also offer traditional Mexican breakfast.

Went there for lunch during the week. We picked it because "Restaurant Impossible" had filmed there just a few weeks before. We figured Robert and crew had probably done an amazing job and that we couldn't go wrong. Well, we did. Walking in at 11 the place was dead. No biggie, it was early. Decor was nice. The dining room was very clean and bright. The menu was a simple one sheet. Everything had even pricing (no 99 cents tacked on to make it look cheaper). Cheap however is not a word I would use to describe this place. Most items on the menu will set you back a minimum of $10. You want 3 tacos, its gonna be $10. Burrito, $10. Enchilada, $10. Fish tacos, $13. Even a simple basket of chips and salsa will set you back $4. In an area that's saturated with Latino/Mexican food, the main thing that sets this apart is it will cost you twice as much. While the food was clearly fresh and not nuked like many competing establishments, it simply isn't worth the price of admission if you ask me. Drop the prices by about 30% and I think you could have a winner on your hands. That and seriously, don't charge for chips and salsa.

I can only speak to their breakfast, but boy was it delicious! My boyfriend is a Mexican food fiend so we thought Poco's would make a good Saturday brunch - especially because they were featured on Restaurant: Impossible. The service was friendly and fast and the food good. Both the red and green sauces are delicious though the salsa is just okay. I enjoyed huevos motuleños and my boyfriend the breakfast burrito, which was actually more like rolled tacos. Both were delicious but mine came with breakfast potatoes, that was a major plus for me! We're already planning on a dinner there soon! I'd definitely recommend it.

Twice in one week we've had a great meal at Poco's. This isn't run-of-the-mill Mexican food with tacos and enchiladas. This is pan- Hispanic food with the freshest ingredients. We had marinated grilled skirt steak with a fantastic green chili dipping sauce. The puffy fish tacos were also great. Breakfast brought out the huevos in a dozen different combos - all with fresh salsas to compliment the flavors. Having lives in California for 20 years, we know our Latin flavors and this is the best we've found in KC.

Walking up to the door, you are greeted with a sign saying that they are being featured on a TV show! Oh swell! That must mean this place is good. But then reading further, they are being featured on 'Restaurant Impossible' in November and are completely changing the menu. I have seen that show and some sad ass restaurants are featured there. Why on Earth would you advertise something like that? It was basically telling me "You'll get your patience tested here! Luv ya!" But I kept on, thinking perhaps it is not bad as it seemed. Give it a chance.. everyone deserves one. I asked the server if she had any recommendations to which I got a blank stare, a smirk and then no answer. Not a good sign. So I made a shot in the dark and ordered the Mayan Tacos with chicken. Also ordered chips and salsa. Chips tasted and looked homemade which was promising and two different types of salsas were presented, an odd pico de gallo and 'spicy'. The pico de gallo salsa totally tasted like some sort of ceviche without the fish. Like, they used their base for ceviche and called it salsa. Weird, but okay. The other salsa looked really hot but it wasn't which was a let down but whatever. It still tasted okay. Then the tacos came out and I was surprised. I have never had tacos like this before. Flour shells with a cheesy cream sauce topped with grilled chicken and grilled green onions. The flavor was interesting but rather bland. I also don't recommend eating this dish on a date because pulling out grilled green onion that you can't bite through is not a sexy sight. I will give them props for the 'extras' you put on the tacos. It included a giant slice of avocado for each taco to enjoy along with lettuce and tomato. I cannot think of any other place that is generous with the avocado so thanks for not having me ration it out! I really want to like this place but I just don't get it. Maybe I will try again when some fancy TV guy sorts their shit out for them? I don't know.

Chilaquiles. Sometimes you just need chilaquiles to start your day. I've always loved this place and it's even lovelier now that the inside is all spruced up. I would rank this as one of the best breakfast spots in KC. Reliably good food. Friendly service. Endless coffee refills.

Loved b-fast. Chilaquiles are hot enough, but not too spicy. Service was super slow, but drinks were kept brimming. I think they were working on a large to-go order, which means I'll cut some slack. Was super disappointed when we went the other weekend and they were closed for a family/staff party. It has become a regular craving.

This place has really, really great food and great service! Don't judge a book by it's cover. It's authentic Mexican and has amazing menu choices. Try the chorizo.

We've tried a lot of Mexican places on the boulevard-but never Poco's. Since I love Restaurant Impossible and saw a news piece on it a few weeks ago-we decided to try it. The atmosphere was fresh and nice as one would expect after Robert and gang had their way with it. The menu was a bit different than what you find in neighboring spots. We decided to ask our diminutive server for suggestions-which is usually risky in a Mexican joint. We truly laughed out loud each time she left the table because of the adventure in communication. This was not a language issue-not quite sure what caused the confusion, but it was entertaining. One of the proprietor's came to our rescue and answered our menu questions, and we settled on the ceviche, mahi mahi tacos and sopa cochenitas (which was not soup like I had expected. The ceviche probably was the best we've had since our boat captain dove for conch and prepared it deck side in the Cayman Islands. The shrimp was large and the tastes magical. The mahi mahi was also delicious as we're the mini flat bean and pork delights that came as sopas. All in all we had amazing tastes along with a killer margarita. We will be back-and can't wait to watch the show to see the before and after.

I was pleasantly surprised to find this sweet little gem of a place off Southwest Blvd. I have been driving by it for years and had up until now, never stopped in. One Sunday morning, my boyfriend and I wanted to try some place new for breakfast. After searching on Yelp we came across Poco's and decided to try it. Everything on the menu seemed like it would be good, I had a hard time narrowing it down to only one choice. I finally decided on the San Antonio tacos while my boyfriend chose the Moyetes on the waiter's suggestion. Our food came fairly quickly after ordering and there was plenty of it! The side of potatoes my meal came with are probably the most delicious breakfast potatoes I have ever encountered. The tacos were incredible too! My boyfriend devoured his Moyetes, safe to say that was a good choice! We were very pleased with our first visit. We will definitely go back and I have been recommending to friends ever since!

I really enjoyed the atmosphere, bright and not over-flowing with decor. The breakfast was fresh and delicious. I had an egg scramble with catcus, onions, and tomatos with a side of black beans. It was a satisfying breakfast and not too pricey. Plus it got me through a whole day of antique shopping. No easy feat! I look forward to trying this place for lunch though, those fish tacos sound amazing.

Why would anyone eat here? I've been here twice but only because I was going with a group of people and it's very close to where I work. It's been a large group both times, but we call ahead and let them know days ahead. Even with a heads up they never have enough staff or glassware. One of the glasses I received was broken and should have been thrown out. A few of us ordered mojitos & the waitress insisted that we try samples first because they weren't very good. Why serve something bad enough that you have to warn your customers about it? The menu is crazy & so overpriced the selection is weird. The chips were burned. I ordered fish tacos & they were very expensive. They were good, but not great. I've had better fish tacos on the Plaza for less $. There are too many good options on the Blvd to waste time & money here.

Poco's is a fantastic, family run business. It's not fancy, it's more like sitting in someone's house after a long day of work and feeling glad to be there. The tv is usually on, sometimes with the volume up or sometimes with it turned down. You can usually hear the sisters (waitresses) speaking or yelling at each other. The waitress will talk about "mom" back in the kitchen. It's so comfortable and the service is great, maybe not always quick, but in this atmosphere, who cares. The chips are salsa's are so good. There is a creamy, avocado/lime salsa *SMOOCH*, so good and recently a fresh tomato cilantro salsa too. The menu is not the typical boulevard gooey cheese type of mexican menu. It's much more fresh. I have to be honest and say that I typically order the fajitas. Not very daring, but they are always great and that's what I'm usually craving. (The one item that I don't feel is so good is the guacamole, but that's the only item I've had so far that was just so so.) I love that I can go on a Friday night and not have to wait for a table, have a pretty quiet atmosphere and relax. But I do want them to stay around, so if that means more people discover this place, I will be happy about that also. It's not fancy, it's not formal and I love it. It is fresh, it is personable, it is comfortable and I love it.

We go here for breakfast regularly, and it's always great. (I recommend chilaquiles or moyetes.) We'd been going long before Restaurant Impossible came, for the record, but only for breakfast. Lunch and dinner are also pretty tasty. The service is consistently just a little on the wonky side.

I picked up food that was inedible. I called the store and told them I would not be able to make it back to their establishment that evening. I was told I could come back and get a refund. When I returned to get a refund I spoke with the manager and she said she would take care of it. Needless to say, I never got my money back! DO NOT GO HERE!

Excellent service. Didn't have to wait more than 20 seconds for a beer or chip refill. I got the fish tacos and my wife got the mahi mahi tacos so we could each try one. They were a little too fishy. The rice and beans were average. Chorizo and salsa were very good. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a new Mexican joint on Southwest Blvd.

I had a Groupon so my fiancee and I decided to try this place on a Thursday night. We called ahead to have them reserve a table for us but they told us the place was empty and we wouldn't need to worry about seating. They weren't kidding! We were the only customers in the place at 7:30 P.M. on a Thursday night. I'm not sure if that's normal but it certainly was interesting. Service was great because of it! The waitress brought out fresh house-made chips and two types of salsa promptly along with our waters. The chips were ridiculously addictive. I love freshly made chips - not the store brought kind. The salsa also had a bit of heat to it. I got the roasted red pepper while my fiancee ordered the vegetarian chile relleno. The presentation of the pepper was so beautiful that it was such a shame to eat! Both dishes were very good. Poco's website makes it appear to be more of a fine dining restaurant but I found the interior to be more casual. That threw us off a little bit when we first arrived. All in all an enjoyable experience especially since we only paid about $10 post-Groupon.

well, it seems like it took forever, but we finally made it back into Poco's after their Restauraunt Impossible makeover. It's much brighter, the menu is much smaller, but the food is still some of the best you will eat in all of Kansas City. I'm still amazed on a saturday night when all the other cantinas on the BLVD are packed to the gills that this place sits nearly empty. It's not a good sign, but I'll keep my fingers crossed that they make up for it in breakfast sales and their taco truck. What people don't know about this place is criminal, especially in a mexican heavy town like kansas city. anyways, my big complaint about the new menu, is there is no more ala carta, which is disappointing to me because i like to eat a bunch of different things, not a one plate of the same thing. there's no combination platter either, so you're pretty much stuck with what's on the menu. that being said, you can get different meat options in your fluffy tacos or enchiladas, so that helps. the chips and salsa are the best in kansas city, hands down, and their cheese dip was a little thin for my tastes. the margaritas were fine, but obviously made with a mix, but not sour and fairly strong. we were too full for dessert. I usually come here for breakfast, where it never fails to satisify, so it's nice to come back for dinner and find out that they still rock the casbah, amazing food, amazing.

I tried this place because my Guatemalan roommate wanted something out of the ordinary Mexican breakfast. So I came across a review of this place online. We were the only ones there at 10:30am on a Tuesday. We were told that they recently re-opened after about 6 months of only doing catering. Our server was very pleasant and helpful. Roomie loved the fresh salsa but the tortilla chips were something to get use too. She also got a horchata and it was unusually thick. I thought it had too much mix in it. She also got the moyetes. Which we both thought was great. I ordered a combo of ground beef enchilada (more cheese than beef) and soft taco al pastor (not pleased with). Usually, I ignore the rice and beans that come with an entree. This time, I actually liked and ate them all. I think the place is promising, that I can find some really good dishes to eat there. I shall return.

I was especially disappointed with Poco's. This is why. The place messed up most of the details, but with just a little effort, a slightly stricter standard, the food would have been quite good. Instead, it wasn't. Laziness appeared to be the culprit. To begin, the chips were stale. No excuse for this. Try a chip in back before serving, and if it is stale, serve a new batch. The salsa was odd, almost off-putting. It apparently hadn't been sampled either. The plates of food were not hot in the least. The cheese enchiladas were room temperature, the cheese itself tough and rubbery. The red chili sauce that topped the enchiladas would have/should have been good, but it hadn't simmered nearly long enough, so it tasted raw and acrid. The meat in the pork burrito hadn't simmered long enough either, and was tough as a result. And the chicken mole burrito, it accounted for the worst lapse in attention. The chicken mole itself was okay, but the cook had taken a dry, room temperature tortilla, wrapped it around the filling, and plopped the burrito on the plate, just like that, without any sauce or warming. Very unappealing. We ate the mole and ignored the tortilla. The accompanying rice was blah, the beans standard. The person who assembled our meals clearly couldn't have cared less about presenting a good, hot, appetizing lunch to a customer. The plates of food we received telegraphed that without question. And if the cook has zero enthusiasm for his/her work, then a patron isn't going to have the least bit of enthusiasm for the end result.

I don't mind if it's not authentic as long as it's delicious! Vegetable tamales are listed on their appetizers menu, but I ordered them for dinner with a side of beans and rice. Tomatillo salsa and goat cheese? Yes please! Beans and rice were simple but done well. I think there was a hint of tomatillo in the guacamole too - I saw some seeds and tasted a little sweetness.

When you look for great Mexican food in KC you don't want a fancy restaurant with non-spanish speaking staff & teenage boys cooking the food. Pocos has great food cooked by older hispanic ladies behind the grill. Everything tasted fresh, not warmed or microwaved. Restaurant is clean but not fancy. Service is good as are the food choices. I will be eating here again.

Poco's has seriously good breakfast options. I visited over the weekend and very much enjoyed the Huevos Motulenos as well as a bite or two of my husband's dish, Moyetes. The portions are huge and the flavor is huge, but the price tag is nice and small! I will definitely be a repeat customer here and can't wait to sample the dinner menu. YUM!

We tried this place last night, after hearing about it's renovation on RI. I ordered a La Bomba cocktail, which was thankfully strong and delightfully colorful. I decided on the Chili Marinated Skirt Steak with Chargrilled and sliced, salsa verde, black bean compote, and served with rice. The steak was a little chewy, but was definately acceptable. The salsa verde came in a little ramekin and I would have loved a larger portion, as it was flavorful and accompanied the steak perfectly. The black bean compote was a little misleading. It was actually seasoned black beans, which weren't that remarkable. The rice was a spanish rice with a tomato base. Overall, the meal was better than expected, but we probably will not return. At least we can say we've been there now.

One of our regulars for the kind of Mexican food we enjoy in Puerto Vallarta. Don't go here if you expect Tex-Mex with heavy sauces and globs of cheese. I think the chicken fajitas are the best anywhere. And the margaritas are tasty and don't spare the tequila.

I'm glad that I usually drive fast enough past this place so I was never quite sure what it was. Seriously though, I'll eat at any place that looks like authentic Mexican so, we choose here to take our surprise out of town guest. I am also grateful that I had no idea what to expect going in. Our visiting vegetarian was able to find something he liked on the menu, which was my main concern. He and my husband raved about the enchilada sauce, so next time, I'll know. I had the fish's fish taco. We renamed it that due to the strange mix of fish on two tacos. We had salmon, tilapia, possibly some cod? All grilled, good but weird. Now, I could be wrong about this and for vege's sake I hope I am, but I swear that there was bacon fat in those beans. As much as I like bacon, you know, it just kind of not for me. Please ask though, I don't want to throw anyone under the bacon bus. I'm wiling to try this place again but my goal is breakfast. I love huevos and anything with chorizo. They open by 7 a.m. so that is totally happening.

My confusion about what Poco's really is starts with their website. The logo in the upper left - used on all the restaurant's signage - though presumably tasteful, is fairly whimsical and lighthearted in its design. The food photography and fonts used on the rest of the pages, however, would make one think the place had a black tie dress code. Let's review the restaurant based on the main pods on the website's home page: Reservations: The scripted, styled font and photo of a hard-backed, lined, formal guest book with gold-tipped fountain pen screams "fine dining - better call ahead". When we walked in at 8:00 on Saturday, there was only one other couple in attendance, mostly done with their food. So calling ahead would seem less critical than we were led to believe. Menu: Here the site showcases a lamb chop, with the rib bone perfectly "Frenched" (if that's a word), cleared of meat for use as the handle of a beautiful meat popsicle. Red wine and delicate greens are romantically blurred in the background. And to Poco's credit, grilled rack of lamb (Cordero Borracho) is the first thing listed on the dinner menu. Indeed, the small-ish menu is all over the place, with the aforementioned elegant $24.99 entree juxtaposed with Mexi-classics like Fajitas ($13-$16) and Fish Tacos ($12.95), also mingling with real head-scratchers like Risotto and the Pasta of the Day. The free chips that came served with the salsa were quite crunchy and had more chracter than most Mexican restaurant chips. Very good. The salsa was a nice consistency, but somehow lacking in flavor. A little too watery. Not the best in town, but definitely not the worst, either. We started with the Goat Cheese Vegetable Tamales appetizer, which turned out to be a tamale revelation for us. Two nicely sized open corn husks were the bed for tightly packed massa, inside of which were thin strips of roasted onion and red pepper. A green sauce and crumbles of goat cheese sat atop each of the tamales and looked to have been quickly heated under a broiler. As tamales can be slightly flavorless, these were exceptional for the charred taste that came on the pepper and onion, and the tang from the goat cheese on top. The entree choice: mole with chicken. The left third of my plate held the typical Mexican rice and refried beans (hearty, flavorful beans, though, not the runny bland ones I'm more used to getting). The right side was a big pool of deep brown mole sauce and tender chunks of chicken. Admittedly, it was a lot of sauce and only a little chicken, but definitely enough to fill the three warm, pliable corn tortillas that came wrapped up in a paper towel on the side. The mole was a chocolatey one but, unlike others I've had in town, had the nice slow burn as an undertone. Clearly the appropriate regimen of chilies had been employed in the cooking process, which made this mole's depth far better than its local competitors that I've sampled. Cutting the richness of our slightly heavy meals were a couple of sugary, citrusy margaritas. I couldn't quite see how they were made, but given the server's recommendation and the flavors I was picking up, I'd bet they were NOT from a bottle of Jose Cuervo pre-mix. It really hit the spot. And then a funny thing happened. When we reflexively declined a look at the dessert menu, being completely full and with sport-eating regret seeping into our psyches, a beautiful plate of honey and cocoa scented flan showed up. Now, Elizabeth and I are not custard people. Creme brulee has to be really good to not gross us out, and flan has even less of a chance of hitting the mark, what with being cold and served outside a container, molded like a Mayan temple of fat (okay, I have issues). It was firm, yet so incredibly smooth, and the cocoa gave the caramelly liquid in which the flan rested a wonderful bitterness and depth of flavor. It was truly a sweet treat to end the meal. Catering: On the right hand side of the web page is the Catering pod, decorated with a photo of shining stainless steel heated trays with linens primly knotted around each handle. Contrastingly, but not disappointingly, the Poco's catering trucks were parked out back, somewhat less ceremonious in appearance. If they serve the same food as can be found in the restaurant, though, who cares? Bring it to me in a dump truck as far as I'm concerned. To end the evening, our server told us that Poco's also still specializes in breakfast/brunch, too, which contains both diner classics like those found at the Waid's back in the day, as well as great Mexican favorites like huevos con chorizo. A promising idea for our next fuzzy morning after over-indulging, perhaps. Poco's may not be exactly what it's trying to market itself as, but I'd urge you not to get hung up on that confusion. It's a Latin American restaurant on the Boulevard with good service, a comfortable dining room, and some solid food. That's really all you need to know.

After driving past this place for years, and having seen the place on RI, I decided to try it. Am I glad I did!! I had the Cuban sandwich. It was the best one I've had since I moved to KC! The pork was tender and flavorful. It was served hot and delicious. I'll be back to try another menu item soon.

My wife and I went for lunch while visiting Kansas city for a wedding. The Cuban sandwich was excellent. The service was friendly and it appeared to be pretty busy for a weekend. I recommend this restaurant and will be sure to come back next time we are in town.

My husband Mr. C will kill me for giving Poco's just 3 stars, but the fact of the matter is that I think it is mediocre. I have not been overly impressed with their food. The only thing I can say is that the eggs are cooked to perfection.

We adore this little joint! We've eaten Mexican breakfast here several times and it has never been anything but superb! I've taken other friends with me here too. It just DAMNED good! That's what it is. I've had the tamales with the fried eggs over medium, beans and rice! Yousa! Delicious combination. The menudo is divoon! A must have for Sunday morning brunch. This last time, I had two enchiladas, rice and beans. I love the enchilada sauce here. I ordered one cheese and one meat and got two meat (pay attention servers...) but I'm not gonna quibble about that. The service really is above reproach. They are there quickly making sure you have your drinks, chips and salsa and then the food comes pretty quickly, nice and warm and getting you excited about digging in! The price is right too. We will continue to make Poco's one of our Mexican favorites in a town that has tons of Mexican restaurants.

We went here on a Friday Night and we were the only people in this place. I don't know why, the food is excellent, probably some of the best salsa in the city. The restaurant is not typical Mexican food, i would say it's more of a latin american feel. I had the orange-chipotle pork tacos and they were excellent. The prices are a little on the high side but I am willing to pay them and I will be back for more because the food wasn't your typical greasy mexican food. I would like to try the breakfast sometime. The place is family run which is always a big plus for me.

Great brunch spot for the morning after an exhaustive night of debauchery. Tex mex flavors and dishes make for a filling brunch meal, although occasionally hit or miss. The coffee is standard, but try the horchata for something a little more ethnic. Favorites: chilaquiles burritos A unique place, probably not for everyone. It's casual and laid-back, and contrary to the other reviews I've always seen the place hopping. Servers are friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed.

This is the best Mexican in Kansas City. Granted, I've only been to like 3 places so far but this is the only place I'd consider a true Mexican restaurant. Almost all the others I've been to/ drove by are either cheap shitty Mexican specializing in lunches for rednecks or Margarita bars. Poco's, however, gives you a wide selection of sit-down entrees to choose from (mostly Mexican but a decent number of South American dishes as well). The chips are fine. The appetizers aren't the conventional selections. I got some shrimp empanadas that were encased in flaky croissant-like dough instead of the usual fried dough (interesting but I prefer the standard empanadas). I've been there twice and I've had 2 entrees. The second was a pull pork dish that was OK. The first was what I judge all Mexican restaurants by: chicken mole. Mole's very easy to screw up. The other restaurants here made the sauce too chocolaty and sweet. You could also make it too tomatoey (less of an offence). The best places find just the right balance and treat you to a sauce that is both earthy and complex. Poco's finds that balance and that makes me very happy.

Had a great lunch here today! Fish tacos were GREAT! I was very impressed with the taco architecture; the fish was moist and buttery and carefully laid inside a whole lettuce leaf and then into the fresh warm and slightly toasty tortilla, topped w creamy guacamole and placed inside a "taco rack". The rack keeps it perfectly in tact and out of your tasty beans and rice. But the genius is the lettuce leaf which holds all the juicy fish and keeps the tortilla from getting soggy! Brilliant! We'll be back. Place is clean and bright and the service was pleasant and appropriately attentive.

I have to admit I have passed by this place so many times before but after seeing that Restaurant: Impossible had done a makeover on this place, curiosity got the better of me and my husband and we made it in, FINALLY! Granted the green color of the decor was brighter than I cared for, it was all done in good taste. Really, decor doesn't determine if the restaurant deserves a lesser rating than the quality of food that it puts out. On to the yum stuff. We weren't very hungry to begin with but we both wanted to sample more than 1 item. We started out with the Crab & Shrimp Ceviche. (cough)(cough) $9 for a serving but it's a seafood dish in Kansas City where those have to be imported; to be expected. It was the most delicious & fresh tasting appetizer ever! Being a Tuesday, the waiter said it is Taco Tuesday, $1.50/taco. We got 1 Asado (beef) & Alpastor (pork). Both were topped with finely diced onions & cilantro and served with a lime slice. The plate had a serving of rice and refried beans. The size of the taco shell was about 5" in diameter. When ordering a taco here, don't even think you are going to get anything close to Taco Bell or other texmex places. Though small, each taco was loaded with meat and punched you with flavor. Rather than eating these like a regular taco, we had each bite with a bit of rice & beans...WOW! Because the tacos were loaded with meat I felt more full right away. I am always up for a meal with higher protein content & lower carbs (filler foods). The waiter we had was very friendly & helpful. We also had a chance to visit with the owner, Claudia. Very nice people, down to earth & unpretentious. We would definitely come back if ever we are in the mood for a good Mexican fare in KC. What we thought was our favorite Mexican restaurant in KC has just gotten replaced by Poco's, for sure!

I went to Poco's after seeing all the fantastic reviews on google. The service was great. They even brought samples when I didn't know what something was (menudo)! Everyone was extremely nice. The salsa, as everyone says, is really good. The rest of the food, however, was just okay. The guacamole tasted like it had been made w/ mayo and too much of it. I like my guac to have some texture to it. I tried the tacos al pastor (which had good flavor, but were a bit dry), a chicken enchilada (pretty bland), and a burrito (brisket?), which had way to many potatoes in it. Overall, the experience was okay but I have no desire to go back anytime soon.

The Pocos Mexican Cafe is as Authentic as any Mexican Grill in KC. It has a real tacos & quesadillas, not a fried taco as many Americans think is the real thing. The rice they make is to die for and the tacos as well. As said in other reviews it is quiet and has GREAT service. So if you have a craving for a real Mexican dinner go on down to the power and light and get some!

I'm always up for a new restaurant. The service was awful. I could see the food waiting to be picked up for over 5 minutes. The waitress worked at a snail's pace. The cook should have called for the food to be picked up. I tried to imagine the food warm when I ate it; it was cold. The guacomole was well-seasoned. The fish tacos so/so-try Teocali's for the best fish tacos in town. The mole was interesting with good flavor. I don't believe that the owner is new to the restaurant business so there is no excuse. If you're an awful server at least smile. The place was nearly empty so there is no excuse for the poor service.

Easily the best mexican food in KC. Went there for lunch with a colleague as I had an expiring groupon. Place was moderately busy, and we were quickly greeted. Both the hostess and server were very friendly and offered suggestions when asked. We started with the guacamole, which was excellent. The plaintain chips were a bit sparse, but they are handmade, so I'm okay with it. I wish they had just included some regular chips as well, which we ended up ordering (along with salsa). The salsa was mild but very flavorful. Definitely not a thick salsa, which isn't my taste anyway, so it was great. For my entree, I ordered a combo plate... brisket taco, chicken mole burrito and the goat cheese/roasted veggie tamale for $8.95. The accompanying rice and beans were both the best I've had at a restaurant. The beans were thick and clearly made from scratch. I wouldn't be surprised if there's some sort of meat in them, but come on. Refried beans are generally done with lard or other animal fat. They were thick, creamy, and delicious, topped with a bit of white cheese. The rice was one of the best things on the plate (no easy feat!)... Moist, fluffy, and not at all tomato-y or greasy, which is what you see too often elsewhere. With peas, corn and chunks of tomatoes, it reminded me of rice served by my aunt whenever she'd have us over for traditional mexican fare. As for the taco, the brisket was slightly dry, but more than made up for it in flavor, which was great. A little dab of guac and salsa and I was good to go. I went with the soft taco, which is served in a corn tortilla. Definitely a great choice. The tamale was perfectly cooked and was just really interesting and delicious. Not every day that you see goat cheese at a Mexican place! The salsa verde gave it a nice kick that cut the heaviness of the goat cheese. The masa was moist and flavorful, and the veggies gave it a wonderful flavor. Perfectly constructed so that you aren't missing meat at all. The mole was just incredible. The sauce was far more complex than any mole I've had before... smoky but not too chocolaty (real chile action here, not cheater style americanized mole!), and had an amazing fragrant note that had me guessing the whole time. Just really delightful. Bummed to learn just as I'm moving that food this good was just down the street this whole time! I'll definitely be making a point of getting back here, though. While the dinner menu is on the pricier side and will be more special occasion dining for me, the lunch menu cannot be beat! Definitely going will be driving across town for this!!

The place had a foul smell as we walked in, the smell was even in the tea. The fish tacos were made of cheap fish, for the price I expected a nice white fish. The shrimp dinner was also expensive, and made of tiny, rubbery cheap shrimp. We will not be returning! Way over priced, and very tasteless meals.

I have only been there one time but fell in love with the food. Most Mexican restraunts are all the same. You can order a taco, burrito, etc and it is all the same!!! Personally I always like to try something on the menu I have never had which is normally impossible at a mexican restraunt. I love the family feel that it has. Hot food, hot women, cold beer, and killer chips and salsa. What more could you want.

I pass this place all the time and finally stopped in. I would consider this a hidden gem in Kansas City. The food was exceptional, and truly authentic. The breakfast was a nice break from the greasy places I usually go downtown. I can't wait to try the dinner.

Five stars, this place is really as good as it gets! Poco's delivers exactly what is expected: great authentic food served by happy people who feel like family. I had been there once before a while ago, but ate there again this morning and hugged the waitress on my way out because I was so happy from my meal. It is delicious enough to eat there regularly, and inexpensive enough to come back often.

Bringing the salsa out steamy was fanBUENOtastic. A good idea that more places should use. The chips were fresh. However, the chicken enchiladas were kinda dry... not so great there... and I wasn't given the choice to get any kind of beans other than refried.

This is my FAVORITE place to eat, hands-down! Their homemade salsa is to die for, and I have never been disappointed with anything I've ordered. And to top that off, the service is excellent! I eat there at least twice a week and they always take really good care of me. (Especially Mary on Sundays!) I love the cafe atmosphere and also the fact that they serve beer. Nothing better that a Corona with hueveos rancheros!

Great breakfast and passable Mexican inspired fare. A very pleasant interior with lots of windows. A nice, locally owned joint with friendly staff.

They serve the BEST huevos rancheros in town. Really spicy and delicious. Their homemade salsas are always good too. I recommend it for breakfast and brunch. At night (weekends only) the prices get much higher, and the food is more latin american than mexican. It is usually pretty good at night, but is more hit or miss.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
